El grupo británico de reggae, Aswad, se formó en Londres en 1975 con el vocalista Brinsley ‘Dan’ Forde, el batería Angus ‘Drummie Zeb’ Gaye, el bajo George ‘Ras Levi’ Oban, el guitarrista Donald ‘Benjamin’ Griffiths y la teclista Courtney Hemmings.Durante su larga carrera, su sonido evolucionó desde unas raíces reggae hacia producciones más orientadas al pop. Su single de debut, “Back to Africa”, fue un exitazo en 1976 y después salió “Three Babylon”. En 1994, el grupo lanzó el LP “Rise and Shine”, que les hizo acreedores de una nominación al Grammy por el mejor álbum de reggae.
